Whatipu Walk

Today we finally went for a walk in the Waitakeres. Everyone has been telling us how great the walks are in the Waitakeres but we haven't been able to do any because we didn't have a backpack for Elsie. Today we had a free day, the sun was out, so we took the opportunity. We headed over to Whatipu and took the Gibbon's Walk.

The walking was great - but to be honest the track was a bit of a mess. There has been a lot of rainfall here (well the whole country) over the Winter and the earth just seems sodden everywhere. The track gradually descended into mud - it was more of a gutter than a track really. Joel and I kept persevering - thinking that around the next corner there would be a clearing where we could have our thermos of tea.  Well we walked for around 90 mins then took our opportunity where there was a stunning view of the Tasman coast. It wasn't much of a clearing but we found a perch between the mud and the gorse and enjoyed our tea.

Start of the track

View north up the West Coast
It really was sunny
Elsie enjoyed her typical nap in the backpack
The coat has come off...the scarf has come off...
